1694 Carolina Elephant Token, PROPRIETORS

Country: United States Year issue: 1694 Sale date: 2007-07-26 Bids: 1 Price*: 22000

Rare coin 1694 year issue - United States. Important 1694 Carolina PROPRIETORS "O Over E" Type PCGS Graded Very Fine-30 1694, Carolina Elephant Token, PROPRIETORS with "O Over E" Type, PCGS graded Very Fine-30. This outstanding coin appears to be the finest example we have offered of this major, very rare PROPRIETORS with "O Over E" type. It is a pleasure to behold, being far above average for any typical Elephant Token, never mind this rare Carolina variety. This coin has smooth, hard brown to medium brown surfaces and there are only a few tiny scattered nicks from circulation. The obverse elephant has definite areas of detail that are EF, specially having such a sharply detailed head, ears, tusks, body and tail. The reverse text is well centered and very clear, with only a few letters and designs being weak along the far right side, primarily the word "AND" of the third line. Otherwise, all of the reverse legends are clear and quite even in wear, those remarkable details being a pleasure to read. Rarely do coins of this caliber appear on the market for collectors. As has been the case for such superior quality major rarities of late, we would expect this coin to bring full Guide Book value or greater. An important opportunity for serious Colonial and United States coin collectors. The NGC Population Report indicates that they have not recorded any examples of the Carolina Elephant tokens. The PCGS Population Report records only 9 examples of Carolina Elephant tokens; 1 Uncirculated, 1 AU, 3 in VF (of which this is one), and 3 lower grade pieces. The 2008 Guide Book lists a value for this major type of $13,000 in VF-20 and of $20,000 in EF-40. Coin price 26 July 2007 22000 *.

1792 Half Disme, Struck in Silver, PCGS Fine-15

Country: United States Year issue: 1792 Sale date: 2007-07-26 Bids: 2 Price*: 58000

Rare coin 1792 year issue - United States. Important Pattern 1792 Half Disme PCGS Fine-15 1792 Half Disme, Struck in Silver, Judd 7, Pollock 7, PCGS graded Fine-15. This is a particularly pleasing specimen of this important Pattern for America"s first official coinage. It has been long estimated that only 1,500 coins or so were struck, and said to be from silverware that was provided by Washington. This coin is very well centered, has an attractive gunmetal-gray even color and smooth, hard surfaces. There is one visible tiny nick in the upper right reverse field, well above and behind the eagle"s head. This coin has the overall appearance and sharpness in detail of Very Fine. In fact, it may be somewhat conservatively graded or perhaps net graded due to a number of light scratches which are hidden within the rich toning. In any event, this is an exciting and pleasing, significant collector type coin that is always treasured as a major highlight of any American Colonial, Pattern or United States Coin collection. Coin price 26 July 2007 58000 *.
